ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for aligning workforce capabilities with business objectives, driving and monitoring HR key performance indicators (KPIs), and consistently delivering organizational results through continuous improvement, management reporting, strategic talent development, and executive-level HR leadership. This role serves as a strategic partner to leadership while ensuring compliance, employee engagement, operational excellence, and effective labor relations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Strategic HR Leadership
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Establish, monitor, and analyze HR performance metrics and KPIs, developing strategies aligned with industry best practices.
- Partner with business leaders to align workforce planning and talent strategies with organizational goals.
- Lead all Human Resources operations and personnel activities within the department.
- Serve as a liaison and primary point of contact for internal and external business partners.
- Collaborate closely with managers and corporate teams based in the United States.
- Employee Relations & Labor Compliance
- Advise management on employee relations matters, disciplinary actions, HR policies, procedures, workplace practices, safety, and labor issues.
- Manage employee separations and represent the company before labor authorities and government agencies as required.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable labor laws and employment regulations in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
- Foster and maintain productive communication between labor unions and company leadership.
- Intervene in employee relations and union-related matters to support conflict resolution and positive workplace outcomes.
- Ensure all company policies, procedures, and employment practices are properly documented and maintained.
- Talent Acquisition & Workforce Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee recruitment, selection, onboarding, and orientation programs.
- Manage employee lifecycle activities including promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, vacations, disability cases, and terminations.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions and position profiles aligned with organizational structure and business needs.
- Coordinate workforce planning and staffing requisitions to meet operational demands.
- Employee Development & Engagement
- Design and implement employee engagement, motivation, recognition, and incentive programs.
- Provide coaching, guidance, leadership, and support to employees and managers.
- Coordinate ongoing training and development initiatives to enhance employee performance and organizational capability.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional growth, and high performance.
- Compensation, Payroll & Administration
- Oversee compensation programs and labor cost management.
- Review and verify payroll accuracy, employee hires, terminations, and compensation changes.
- Ensure payroll systems are maintained accurately and processed on time.
- Manage employee records and HR documentation, including employment verification letters, recommendation letters, and administrative requests.
- Oversee departmental budgeting and resource planning.
- Reporting & Operational Excellence
- Prepare and present regular management reports on HR performance, workforce trends, and departmental initiatives.
- Monitor attendance, absenteeism, turnover, labor costs, healthcare costs, and workforce productivity metrics.
- Ensure employees have the necessary tools, resources, and support to perform effectively.
- Implement corrective actions and approved improvements resulting from audits and compliance reviews.
- Maintain organized HR documentation and information systems for easy access and reporting.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by senior leadership.
- Key Operational Responsibilities
- Monitor daily and weekly absenteeism reports.
- Manage payroll review and approval processes.
- Track workforce attendance and strive to maintain attendance levels above 98%.
- Prepare weekly and monthly turnover reports.
- Oversee disciplinary processes and documentation.
- Manage departmental metrics, labor costs, and HR reporting.
- Coordinate procurement of departmental supplies and work tools.
- Ensure compliance with administrative processes and company policies.
- Lead employee engagement and performance improvement initiatives.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Language Skills: Spanish – Advanced. English – Intermediate. French – Intermediate. Haitian Creole – Basic
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s in Psychology, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field required or Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including leadership roles at the department, management, and director levels. Proven experience leading HR managers, department heads, and functional leaders across multiple HR disciplines. Extensive experience overseeing employee relations, labor relations, talent acquisition, payroll administration, conflict resolution, organizational development, and compliance. Experience supporting large-scale operations, preferably within manufacturing, industrial, or multi-site environments. Demonstrated ability to partner with executive leadership and corporate HR teams to drive strategic business objectives.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Office Suite proficiency. Advanced experience with HRIS, payroll systems, and computerized business systems. Strong reporting, analytics, and HR metrics management skills. Experience utilizing data and KPIs to drive business decisions.
